just want to check with you on the procedure at the malaysian high comm on renouncing malaysian citizenship. How many trip did you have to make to get the whole thing done? How long did it take for you to get the letter stating that you have renounced?

It's the documentation that is the problem. The forms are in Malay so I was not sure on how to fill them in. I suggest you head straight to this guy, just pay him a fee and get it over and done with.

I'd rather have him settle the entire application for me. It's just not worth coming back again to queue up, getting forms thrown back at your face, and deal with the horrible attitude of the counter staff.

After renunciation is submitted, you MUST return again probably in a few days or so to collect the renunciation slip.

With this slip, head down to SIR building to take your OATH. You have so called "renounced" your Malaysian Citizenship. And it'll be around a year or so before you receive your proper renunciation letter.

Just exactly how long do you have to wait for the final renounciation letter to arrive? Becasue they told me have to wait for 2 years. And our ICA is chasing like mad saying that have to show them the Form K otherwise they will take back the Singapore passport...:(

i had obtained a date to submit the application, because they only do 20 a day. I will have to wait until 4th Sept!!!! And I have to call ICA to postpone. They couldn't do on the same day because i reached there after 11am.

I have absolutely no idea that the queue was so long! submission should be very fast right? just let the counter on your right check through applications, then they will redirect you to the left counter if everything is complete. geesh! i never knew the queue was so long now. is it possible to go through that WTLEE guy to see if things can be sped up? how about you call him for advice?

I am a native born Malaysian wish to renounce the citizenship as I have been granted approval for Sinagpore Citizenshp. Form K requires to fill up below information, any idea what is all about.

I went down to collect form K today. To my suprise submission of form is set at Sept 15 the earliest. Collection of Proof of Renunciation is 7 days after submission. REALLT PISS OFF.

Oh yes, I did have to wait for a week or so after my submission to collect my Proof of Renunciation. After which I headed down directly to ICA building to take my oath.

I just got my S'pore Citizenship approval letter (both for myself and 2 of my daughters age 3 and 8 and they are are born in S'pore). In the letter, I'm told to renounce my M'sian Citizenship but not for my daughters. Is this normal or it is because when I become a S'pore Citizen, they will automatically follow mine?

For rescheduling with ICA, there is a number provide at the top part of the Approval Letter. Just need to let them have your Application Number.

Btw, I was told my the counter staff that just need to bring phocopied IC of parent will do. She didnt mentioned about Parent's Birth Cert...etc.
Is it required?

Hi Chris, One question for you. When will they officially take away your M'sian passport from you? I need to plan in advance because I do a lot of regional traveling as it is part of my job.

KHS05 : No. They will not. My dad became a singapore citizen after giving birth to me in Singapore. I still continued to retain my Malaysian citizenship. And my birthcert had : THIS CHILD IS NOT A CITIZEN OF SINGAPORE AT TIME OF BIRTH.

On the day I submitted my forms, my Malaysian passport was taken away from me. I had a Singapore passport at that time already and the Malaysian passport was of no use to me.

Jackie : Hi jackie. OMG 22nd September, such a long wait! I brought along my parents birth cert and NRIC photocopies, and all were taken as well. I believe its worthwhile to play safe.

WT LEE, erm last time I paid I think... 60 or 70? They printed it via normal ink jet printer. Once the counter staff sees that it is printed (instead of written), they will know it comes from WT LEE. Understand that some things can be posted online, some cannot. haha. you'll know what i am saying.

I'm expecting baby in first week Oct this year (could be coming anytime now). What IF I've submitted the K form for renounce my Malaysia citizenship while in the process, but before getting the Singapore citizenship? Will this cause complication?

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!

My apologies. I really cannot advise you on this because I do not know much about the procedures.

1. Hopefully someone who has been through this chances upon this post while searching Google and is able to comment and advise you accordingly.

2. On the safe side, you might want to call ICA @ 6391 6100. Their information cannot be wrong. And as far as I know, the people there are really really very helpful in answering any enquiry you might have.

I am in the same boat as you too...

I just received my approval letter yesterday and the registration date given to me is 28 October... which is after my delivery date.. So I called up ICA to request if I could bring it forward... The lady told me that many Malaysians postpone it actually coz they cannot get the Renunciation letter in time!!

Another friend of mine who gave up her Malaysian citizenship told me that the process is very fast. Did not even have to make appointment! Just went to the High Comm and had it done very quickly... Sigh... but she could not remember when she did her renunciation or how much paperwork was required.... because I doubt that the ICA lady could be wrong - I'm sure many would have called her up to inquire.

I have the same question as you too... whether after submitting the Form K, then I deliver before my registration as a Singaporean citizen, there will be complications... Coz currently, if both parents are Malaysians, then we'd need to register the baby at High Comm (Borang W) but if I've submitted the Borang K, then dunno whether my hubby alone still will be able to get the baby registered as a Malaysian and still apply for Malaysian passport... coz we need to travel home after delivery to visit family and I'm a bit concerned... sigh....

Guess I'll have to make a trip down to the High Comm to make inquiries.....
And check out how long the appointment queue is!!!!

I think your friend did that a long long time ago, probably around my time in March last year. Yes it was fast and I didn't have such thing as appointment queues for dates which were months later!

Deanna, i think its important you clarify this issue with both parties, from SG side and Malaysian side. Preferably by email first, so that you have some backup just in case any misunderstandings occur.

Hi, i am helping my mum for this whole renunciation process. i went down to high comm to get the form K and the form is actually in english. I thought i read somewhere its in Malay, anyone knows abt this? Hope i didnt get the wrong form...

Hi Dan, the last time I completed the form, it was in Malay, which threw me off balance. As long as the Form has the words K and Renunciation in it, I think you should be fine.

Maybe they've revamped the forms? Hopefully someone who has the recent form can shed some light on this.

1) No requirement for Form K to be keyed in with type writer.

The rest I'm not sure about and not in the position to advise because I've done it so long ago. Waiting times are crazy right now.

I just got my approval letter recently and attended the National Education Experience today. Was told by some of the people that the waiting list has gone to February. It makes me wonder if there are indeed that many Malaysian renouncing citizenship everyday, or it's just a fluke to make things difficult for all of us. My Malaysian passport is expiring in 1.5 months. I definitely don't want to pay 300 Ringgit to renew the passport only to give it up a month later. Sigh... Will make my first trip to High Commission next Tuesday to sort out all these paperworks. Will keep you guys updated.

I just went to the Malaysian High Comm this morning to obtain the Form K. My appointment date to submit the form is 2 Mar 2009!

I'm supposed to produce all my previous expired passports, since birth till now. Wonder if they are still around or not. If can't find, I'll have to make a police report that they're lost and show that police report during submission.

By the way, there are 8 pages altogether in Form K, 7 of which are in English, but the last page is in Malay. I'll have problem with that last page......

however, i would like to know more information like :-
1.Form K, is it the only place to collect (Mal High Comm)? is there anyway to download like website? how many photos required?
2.once completed Form K, can i collect renounciation slip immediately?
3.can i head down to ICA immediately once obtain a copy of renounciation slip/receipt? can i proceed to register IC with this slip?receipt?
4.renounciation can be done at anytime 8am-11.30am or 2pm-4pm? or they hv specific time?

Hi Ann,

1) You need to show your approval letter from ICA to collect the "Borang K" and get the appointment date for renunciation. No information on embassy website. 3 recent photograph in colour.

2) On the appointment date provided, u will need to submit all the documents required and you will only be able to get your a letter stated "Proof of renunciation" after 7 working day.

With regards to your renunciation, kindly call at the office personally during office hours Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. at 301 Jervois Road Singapore 249077 bringing along letter of approval from Singapore, ICA/ Birth Certificate/Malaysian NRIC to obtain the application form and to fix an appointment date to submit your application.

Required documents for submission of renunciation of Malaysian Citizenship:
I. Letter of Approval from Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) (Original and 2 photocopies)
II. Malaysia NRIC/ Singapore Pink/Blue IC, if any (Original and 2 photocopies)
III. Malaysian/Singapore Birth Certificate (Original and 2 photocopies). *Malaysian original birth certificate to be laminated.
Note: For those born in Singapore are required to produce their ‘Borang W’ (Malaysian Citizenship Certificate), ‘Pengesahan Taraf’ (Confirmation of Status) or ‘Perakuan Taraf’ (Certificate of Status).
IV. Malaysian Passport including expired passport.
V. Photocopies of parents NRIC, Birth Certificate or Citizenship & Passport (To produce 2 copies each of the documents). These doc(s) are required for those:
i) without Malaysian IC / Malaysian Citizenship Certificate
ii) if any one of the parents is not Malaysian.

iii) age 21 & 22

VII. 3 recent colour photographs passport size.
4. Please photocopy 2 sets of the said documents in Para 3 on A-4 size paper.The renunciation letter can be collected after 7 working days from the date of submission between 2.30pm - 4.00pm.

Hi...anyone has made police report for the lost of expired/cancelled Malaysia passports? Is it made in Singapore Neighbourhood Police will do? As I am not sure what is the expired/cancelled passport no., can I just report something like "all expired/cancelled passports prior to Current Passport No. could not be found".
Also do I need to mention the purpose of this police report like 'required by Malaysian High Comm to report lost of expired/cancelled Malaysia passports' for renunciation application'.

I was at the high comm this morning and the queue had indeed reach March 2009. The officer said that there is no need to type, just write neatly. I clarify and she repeated. How confusing???

Anonymous : Typed forms are an indication that it has been filled up by WTLEE. There was never a need to type out the forms.

I went to Msia high comm today 25 Nov to get Form K.
My submission date is 06 March 2009. [ I wonder how come Canny's date is 09 March when he went there on 16 Nov)

Today I also called up ICA - The number Chris given. Hotline ok, Waited for 30min then got someone pickup. They gave me another number to call.

Anyway, the number to call is 6391 6309 /14 /16.
Since I hv not attended NEE. So they can't accept my request to change Singapore Citizenship registration date. My NEE is on 18 Dec 2008.

If you have attended NEE, & need to postpone Spore citizen registration date, pls do either 1 of the following :-

1. Call ICA 6391 6309 /14 /16
2. write to them (snail mail)
3. fax to them - 6293 6956
4. go to ICA - level 6

For those who has problem fill up the form. I was sample pasted on the wall. [opposite the entrance. near to toilet]

I have to renounce my malaysian citizenship as well, i was born in singapore when both my parents were still malaysians. Just went down to collect the 8 pieces of papers to fill up including the borang 'K', any idea if i have to type it out using a typing machine?? And what to fill up for the certificate numbers/ID numbers.. can write my singapore ID number since i have no malaysian ID number? What is the s'pore citizenship application ref. number? only need to return my borang W and expired passports to the embassy since i dont have the other documents what about the mother's birth cert & father's citizenship certificate?

From what I am aware of, you do NOT need to type out the forms. Just write in BLACK pen to be safe. I hope the rest might be able to help you out with your other doubts.

Oh yes! You need to be there super early. My experience was that MHC is supercrowded even before the opening hour.

As for your 2nd question, if u juz want to obtain Borang K then juz bring your approval letter from ICA.

for the colour passport photograph, is it the one with blue background or white background?

I got my citizenship application letter approved in Nov 08 and I went to High Comm. Guess my renounce date? 26th Nov 09. 4 months wait people. I was told by the lady that they only do renounciation 8-10am daily.
I am absolutely amazed at the waiting time

Jeannie : Totally different from when I did mine in 2007. I guess this is due to the huge amount of people renouncing their Malaysian citizenship. This is the reason why we need to help one another and rely on really helpful kind souls (those who replied above) for clarification.

My younger sister has to do hers in like a year's time and I really don't know what to expect. Rather, I dread it.

I just received my ICA approval letter.
This is a fantastic blog which clears most of my doubts, I think we are still very helpful towards each other be it we are Malaysian or Singaporean (to be).
Just need some help to confirm some issues, please help if you can.

1. Chris can you email me the so call cannot publish info?
2. Is the procedure now,
i) Collect Form K at MHC, (must show ICA letter?), they will give us an appt date to submit documents, which is prob four months, that is April 2009?
ii)We are still free to travel , (still hold our IC and Passport), until the appointment date, then our passport will be taken away?
iii) we need to make police report for lost expired passport?
iv) submit documents from 8 to 11am, collect letter about a week later?
v) can go ICA after that.
vi) what happen to my 4yrs old son? he does not need to renounce now? so is he still a citizen of Malaysia and can hold Malaysia Passport cos he does not need to renounce ? He can decide when he is 21?

1. Very simple. Ask yourself this question, why do typewritten forms produced by WTLEE get accepted immediately without question?

2. I'm glad you found this site useful, but I'm unable to provide any more assistance as I have finished the submission a long time ago. The waiting times now are horrendously long (if you read the replies). I hope the rest who are doing it now can be of some assistance to you.

I think one point is missing from all the discussion. The form K from MHC is just a photocopy of the form K. On the appointment date, the forms will be checked and you will be issue a queue number and another 2 copies of the form K in which you had to fill it up (or to transfer from one form to the actual). I am just wondering if the forms from WTLEE is the actual forms (biege color), I do not know since I did not use their service. Adult to pay $6 and child $3.

The only problem of going thru WTLEE is they cannot book a appointment date for you. So after all, you still need to go MHC to get the form and book appointment date

My apologies! (Sorry, this happened so long ago!) Yes we need the appointment date first. Then let WTLEE settle everything. They already have a soft-copy of Form K in their computers, so they can type and print it out for you.

I'm not sure whether you can take it in the afternoons. Will probably have to call Malaysian High Comm to check out.

Things have changed so much since I did my renunciation in mid-2007!

I believe the appointment date, forms will be given and submition only in the morning while collection will be afternoon.

It will be good if you can the trip to MHC personally, just show them the ICA approval letter, the officer will then give you the Form K and explain to you on the documents that needed, ask them if you have any doubts on anything and this will save lots of your time. :)

Btw my appointment will 4 minths from now. :(

To those who almost fainted when submission date given is few months down the road... I almost did too! -_-

I went to collect my forms on 30th Jan and was given a date on 28th May! But because I will be away for 3 weeks in May for my honeymoon, I told the officer that perhaps we should rescheduled it to 5th Jun. At first she agreed to the date but then after some thoughts, she said she will check if she can plan for another date.

To my surprise, she gave me a new date on 6th Apr! Can you imagine that? Well, if any of you gonna have a heart-attack for getting a long long date, maybe you can use this as a trick! Hahas..

Glad you managed to get through this one!

I would suggest you follow the officer's instructions and provide his Death Certificate. There is no question about this one, if they ask, just give.

I'm absolutely not sure how long it would take. The best answer to your question is to call up ICA and verify with them.

I was half way in ICA's webbie trying to reschedule the date to take my Oath of Renunciation. Wanted to do it on the same day as my collection of Proof of Renunciation (is it confirmed 7 working days after submission of forms?), but stopped halfway because I am not sure if everything can be done on the same day.

Is the Proof of Renunciation be collected in the morning time from MHC? Just collect and can leave? And how long is the Oath of Renunciation process at ICA?

I applaud your decision to choose WTLEE. Don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing to do with WTLEE. Out of desperation, I decided that WTLEE was my only chance at getting this over and done with.

Tell me. Do you want to keep on making repeated visits there, queuing up at the counter, only to be told that your forms are incorrect (missing documents here and there)? It was out of desperation that I decided to dump the money at WTLEE and have them settle this matter once and for all.

Hi, I am sharing some information here:

1. The renunciation can be done at Pejabat Pendaftaran Negara (either state office or KL head office) in Malaysia. However, unless you have another foreign passport, it would be impossible to have the renunciation done at Malaysia as we are required to surrender our passport on the submission date.
2. The renunciation letter will only be available for collection after 7 working days from the date of submission, therefore we may make the appointment for registration at ICA on the 8thday.
3. Generally, Singapore passport will be ready for collection after 3 working days from the date of application.

I have renouce my malaysian citizenship and i did call the embassy and finally they took 4 month to go to Putra Jaya, then JPN , and i gave a proxy letter back in malaysia got my family to collect it . it took less the 4 months and syabas JPN was very good ...good job

and yes you can apply for a passport with a another country once u are granted the countries citizenship. no problem.

I am not sure about singapore but like USA, Canada Australia , we can go to the embassy submit form k wait about 6 months only ...the embassy has a bag which goes out every month.

I went this morning,my submission date for form K is end of June 09 ... oh my god... that's crazy :(

I've just done my renunciation at the MHC this morning. I noticed that there is slight improvement in their system compared to what is described here.
1. The forms are now ALL in English.
2. Though the form 'K' needs to be filled in in Malay , the officer will help you to translate to the correct Malay (on the form you filled) and ask you to copy to the final 'yellow form K'.
3. I've lost 3 ot the old passtports. I made a report at the neighbourhood police station (with pastport numbers) and submitted the report MHC ... It was OK.
4. The only troublesome was that, I was asked to laminate another 'extract of my birth cert obtained from home town (as I was a adapted child).
I had to walk all the way to Blk 77 (~10min journey) and paid $5 to get it done.

All in all the process is quite smooth ... but the queue is L O N G ...

MHC told me it will likely take about 7~10 working days to collect the "Proof of Renunciation" letter from them. Appreciated if you can update me the actual days.:) I believed the collection process will take less than half an hour bah.

Your schedule is too agressive. Guess what, the collection of the "Proof of Renunciation " letter only starts in the afternoon 2:30PM on the appointment date. If MHC gives you the appointment on 14th May ... you'll have problem on your ICA appointment.

My citizenship application was approved on 23 Dec 2008. I went down to Msia High Comm in Jan 2009. They gave me 12 May 2009 (5months down the road)... haiz...Anyway, I reschedule to take the oath of renounciation at ICA to 28 May 2009.

Just wanna check, does it mean on 12 May 2009, after submitting all my docs, I will not be able to get out of Singapore until I apply & receive my Singapore passport?

Can I apply Singapore passport, or I can only apply after my citizenship is approve? How long will it take?

Hi....just thought I shd share some pointers based on my recnt experience :
- for missing passports, the police report shd refer to the number of the missing passport prior to yr oldest available one...check last page of passport to locate the number. In my case, police officer advised not possible to make general statement of "all prior passport"s missing"" becos not specific enuf;
- parents docs - at submission, officer only asked for photopies and not the originals altho wise to bring along just in case;
- when stating ICA approval number in the MHC forms, state the full reference number and just the numbers ie. start with RCA etc etc.....;
- when collecting acknowledgement letter, cld collect ltr earlier than the stated 2.30pm....2pm seemed ok...nice friendly folks;
- in the forms, place of issue of M'sian IC shd be P. Jaya and not the state where you come from. I reckon that means Putera Jaya......

Agreed with Grumps, the collection of "Proof of Renunciation " can be earlier. I went there at 2:20pm yesterday and left at 3pm. There are people in front of me who went earlier and left earlier. So you can go earlier and should be able to meet your 3:15pm ICA appointment. :-)

Yes. After you submit all your Malaysia doc's & passports you can't go overseas untill you get your Singapore Passport. So , you need to arrange your appointment with ICA to get your Singapore IC at least 8 working days after the date your submit your doc's. (eg your's on 14th May, ICA appoint on 27th or 28th(safer)). On 28th after you get your Singapore IC you can apply for Passport immediately and within 3 working days it will be ready. i.e your can get your passport on 4th Jun latest.

1. Do I need my dad death cert as he passed away 30 years ago, dont think I have that.

2. My son need not renounce his citizenship as he is minor, and I was told that he can hold dual citizenship till 21. Anyone has the same situation?
If he can keep his Malaysian passport, which passport should he use when he travel to Malaysia? Will he has a problem with Malaysia side, when he needs to do his Malaysia IC?

3. DO we need to rush to ICA to do the oath or can wait till next day? No confidence with them so I have not make appt with ICA yet. will do so only after submission and have a confirm date to collect letter. Do you guys thinks this is the right thing to do?

You will become a truely Singaporen after make oath at ICA but to finalise the whole renunciation process, we have to submit Form K from HCM to ICA which will be about two years time from the date of start of renunciation process.

Q1, If I remembered correctly, you may not need to submit your dad’s death certificate, but to be sure, better call MHC to check..

Q2. I think we all have to submit the passport back to MHC including the minor and your son will become a Singaporean after the oath. Just that when he reach 21, he will give an option to choose between M and S, if he choose S then he will need to do same thing as you do now. 

Q3. You can make oath anytime, not necessary to be the same day. For my case I will the passport travel back to Malaysia. Please bear in mind for ICA appointment, we will only allow to make change for 2 times. I wonder what was your original appt date for ICA?

Lastly, I may had made a wrong statement on the above and please share your experience after your submission, thanks.

- death cert - MHC wanted copy but did not ask to see original. if original lost, you may want to make police report just in case...to save time.
- the number to fill in for the para mentioned - i inserted birth cert no eg. B123456..etc. that cleared.

I happened to chance upon this informative site while trying to look for clarification for some stuff.. I'm (like everyone here) gonna turn 21 this weekend and will soon begin this long journey of renouncing my citizenship and am grateful for all the information here..

However, I was hoping someone would be able to help me clear my query:

I am already a Singapore Citizen (with Certificate of Citizenship, Pink IC and Singapore Passport valid until 6 months after my 21st bday), turning 21 this weekend (so appt probably in Aug 09?).. I am currently planning a trip to Australia in late Apr 09 with my friend who is in the exact same situation as me.. So I am trying to find out if I am able to travel overseas using my MALAYSIA PASSPORT after I turn 21 but before my appointments to renounce my malaysian citizenship since I'm able to travel out of sg with my sg pp that has less than 6 months to expiry..

I went to ICA today and spoke to an officer there and was told to approach MHC for help on this.. She mentioned another alternative would be to pay $70 to extend my sg pp till one month before my 22nd birthday (FEB 2010)..

Anyone has experience of travelling overseas (not msia) after you turn 21 but before renouncing your citizenship?

I brought the set of "proof of renunciation" letter + a set of photocopies, + 4 passport size photos (must be white background, the one taken in MHC is not accepted).

They took my blue IC , 3 photos, the letter + photocopy.
4th photo was used to apply the passport (fixed on the application form and dropped into the collection box)

After the oath, I got the "temporary IC" (just a piece of paper with photo), and got back the following :
The orignial "proof of renunciation" letter
My blue IC (with a hole pounched at the corner)

Thanks Simon - my experience was exactly the same as yours. After I got back, it just struck me as odd that I wasn't given a copy of the öath"document for file record. Some friend who did his many years back got a copy of that doc but can't recall how he got it. Just wondering.....if we will get a copy.

Small - the officer told me that we will get the pik IC bet 3-6 mths time when we get called up for the community centre event.fyi......cheers.

Yap, Grumps is right, they asked me to wait for the call or letter will be sent to me by the GRC people. Anyway, the passport is more important. You can use it for any identity verification asked by bank etc.

1) Yes, 1 person will do. Collect the Borang K for your family from MHC asap and get the submission date. Those checklist documents only needed during the submission of borang K.

2) Need not call ICA to rearrange appointment date for the oath, you can change it online and the link was provided in the bottom part of ICA approval letter.

3) Attend the orientation cource conducted by Singapore gov -> YES

4) Go to MHC again on the appointed submission date itself -> YES, submission is in the morning (8~11am)

5) Collect the prove of renunciation slip from MHC after 7 ~ 10 days -> YES, 7~10 working days, collect them in the afternoon (2~4pm)

Just got my wife to get the Borang K and booked the submission date. I was 28th July. It seems, those old passport that were lost is OK, don't need make a police report. However, other than birth certs, all other document in Malay need to be translated to English, she heard?!?! I hope she heard wrongly.

Since Bahasa is our official language, it will be a big joke if the document in Malay need to be translated to English, please coorect me if I was wrong on this.

Just like to share my exp with the renun process.

I did not fill up some items like my dad ic, and date of issue etc, Was OK.
Filled up FORM K (Last page) in English, the gal at MHC helped me to amedn it in Malay and gave me a new Yellow Form K to fill up again. THe white form is a photocopy, the Yellow form is original. She was VERY helpful.
No questions asked about my passport, as I had all 10 of them. Just need to make police report if lost, it does not appear to me that they check my passport.
Fast process for submission as he just collect, thumb print and issue note to collect. Sumitted 10 Mar, collected 19 March, 7 working days.

I just cancel my ICA appt online and leave it blank as I was worried MHC gave problem, I only log on and get appt after I submitted documents and got the confirmation slip to collect the letter from MHC. Anyway I think ICA has ample appointment. I can actually go on the same day but I am going tmr.

Basically smooth process in submission and collection, dont see any translation required lei. Somehow got the feeling that they are so happy to help us to renounce our citizenship.

Date of approval fm ICA: 13 Mar 09
I received my approval letter from ICA on 18 Mar 09 and went to MHC on 20 Mar 09 to get my appt date.. i requested for an earlier appt date as i m 7mth pregnant now.. and yes, they let me to submit my doc on 9 Apr 09 (Luckily i brought along my medical letter).
And i was exempted to attend NEE conducted by ICA too.
- Never know tt preg woman got so much privilleges : )
Anyway, timing seem a bit tight for me.. hopefully everything go smoothly and i m able to take my oath by end-Apr.

My application process with ICA was pretty fast. I submitted in late September 2008 and received the approval letter in late January 2009.

Wow... That was fast... Mine was submitted on end September too and got it on mid March. My wife's colleague went to submit on the same day as us has yet to receive any reply.

I think those who convert with the whole family got it faster. My wife's friend called ICA. It seems that was the case.

Desmond, I have already converted my M'sia driving licence into Singapore driving licence in January 2009 before I went for the renunciation yesterday.

The conversion is very simple, just enrol with any driving center and take the basic theory test. Thereafter, obtain a letter from M'sia JPJ and submit the same to Traffic Police counter (located at the driving centre)

My wife and kid got the approval for Spore citizenship after waiting almost 7 months. Collected Borang K from MHC 2 days ago and submission in Aug and found out the following from the staff.

1. Borang K can be filled using handwriting but form says must use type. I have 2 friends who pay people to fill up the form to avoid fill wrongly. Do I really need too?
2. Minor is now allowed dual citizenship. Called up ICA and they said Spore allowed dual citizenship for person 21 yrs and below after which need to choose one. According to them, if Msia doesn't allow means kids also must renounce. But i heard some ppl didn't renounce their kids msia citizenship. Confuse?
3. Previous passport no need to make police report. Just have to bring whatever you have.

I have just received my letter of approval from ICA yesterday.

When you guys say to bring present and expired passports, does it mean, ALL expired passports since my first passport when I was a baby? Or just my current and the previous expired passport?

I'm born in Singapore with a Singapore birth Cert. And for sure I do not have a ‘Borang W’ (Malaysian Citizenship Certificate), ‘Pengesahan Taraf’ (Confirmation of Status) or ‘Perakuan Taraf’ (Certificate of Status). What happens then?

Do you think if I call the MHC in Singapore and speak in English, they will be willing to help me? Otherwise, can someone give me an email address to write too?

U may email them, in my past experience, their respond is quite fast, usually within 3 working days.

As for the birth cert, my daughter is born in Spore in 2007 but she is not born as Singaporean, so, we gotta register her birth at Msia HC (need to do it before i can apply for Msia passport for her), they gave me Borong W, it serve as her birth cert.

Hi, just completed my renunciation at MHC and registration of citizenship at ICA yesterday.

I arrived MHC at 2pm and collected the letter at 2.35pm. Thereafter, head for ICA immediately for my 3.15pm appointment. Finished the registration process at ICA at 4.30pm

Collection of Form K + making an appointment date for the submission is to be done in the morning at the MHC consular office between 8.30am to 11am, bring along the letter of approval from ICA. Please try to go before 9.30am or be faced with the likelihood of being asked to go back again. Q up and get your forms from counter 4, the nice Singh aunty will explain to you the things you need to submit.

A note for all before going to MHC, check to make sure that its not a Msia PH. They are closed on PH of both countries!!

Just did my renunciation. Total process took about 3 months. =)

End Dec08: get form K, make appt. Fill in the forms myself.
Mid Mar09: Submit form K, collected renunciation acknowledgement (not the final letter) after 11 days on 24th.

Find this wedside very useful.I am going to MHC tomorow morning(07/04/09) to obtain form k & appointment, heard my friend went last 2 week, she obtain the apointment date on JULY... Hopefully I can get same period as well. In that case I got to cancel my appointment with ICA in which around end of june. By the way, once I get the appontment date, I can ask the Louis Ma to fill in the form for me?

The appointment for submission of Form K is already for August 2009 when I was at MHC to collect my proof of renunciation last Friday (3 April).

Unless you are lucky and able to give a good reason, the Singh lady there might schedule an earlier date for you.

I reach MHC around 7.15am, not much people,exchange pass at guard house went to right hand side of the MHC.In the consulor room, the Singh lady start to give out form around 7.40am.After I get the form , I straigh away go to WTLEE to ask Louis to help to fill in the form by using computer as he have the format of the form in his computer, you just need to provide him information so I suggest before go to WTLEE to fill in the form to bring along all the document in which need to submit together with the form in order Louis to help you to complete the form, he also need extra information such as qualifications,year,qualification obtained, name of the school, employment history and reason to renouncing malaysian citizenship. He charges me S$30.00 incl lamination of the birth cert.

So now I just need to get all the docunment photocopies 2 set and wait for the day to come.

I think we can be there anytime (morning or afternoon) for obtaining the forms and making appointment.

Last time, I went there to get the form and appointment at 1.50pm. The Singh lady starts giving the q numbers and forms at 2.00pm (notwithstanding the office hour for afternoon session starts at 2.30pm). I got the form and appointment date within 10 mins.

My initial submission date was end-May but I explained to her that I need to travel around that period. The Singh lady was very nice and agreed to schedule my submmission date to end-March.

My sister's renunciation is coming up next and I'll head straight to WTLEE. $30 is nothing compared to the hours spent figuring out how the heck to fill in the forms, collecting the documents, only to be told that the submission is incomplete : PLEASE COME BACK ANOTHER DAY!

the forms are in English and need not be type. Can fill in with Blue or Black pen, it take you less than 15 minutes to fill.
I did it myself, missed out certain info like my dad's citizenship cert, and still clear. they dun really border and i dont see anybody being turned away lei.

They are quite friendly and helpful, give me the impression that they happily help you out of My.

My son did not renounce his My citizen and is holding 2 passports now. Sg told us to use Sg p/p, M'sia said once you take up Sg , cannot make ic, renew passport etc, as good as need to give up except i worry they will face problem when SG need him to renounce when he is 21 (he is 5 now)

I had the same experience as Desmond. The Singh lady has been very friendly and helpful throughout the whole process (obtain form, submission and collection).

Ya, agree with Desmond, the forms are in English and quite easy to complete. There is only one form in Malay which Jol has translated it in his/her earlier post (5 Apr). If doubt, you can also always check with Singh lady or refer to the samples pasted in the Consular room's wall...and that will save you $30/-....: )

Ya, the form can be fill by hand written but pls remember to write NEATLY as was told by someone that the form is required by S'pore government?? For your questions:

1) If you submit the form K on 18-Jun, most likely you will collect the renunciation slip 7 working days which is on 29 or 30-June.

2) Iwill suggest to make an appointment with ICA from 30-June onwards. ICA only allow us to change the appoinment date two times thru' online, beyond this we have to call them personally..

3) We can apply for the passport after take the oath at ICA

Pls obtain ur appoitment date from MHC ASAP even before attend NEE as the appoitment date will take place 2- 3 mth later. So as long as u have the letter from ICA, you can go to MHC to book the submision date.

I am a M'sian having worked in S'pore for a number of years, been a S'pore PR for number of years too. I am thinking of applying for S'pore citizenship, if I am successful in my application. That means I will have to renounce Msian citizenship. As of to date, no dual citizenship is allowed for either country, right? Another question is will I be allowed to come back for family visits, holidays to M'sia in future? Is there a restriction as to how many visits per year?

Just want to share my experience went to MHC again to ask about the Form K and Birth Cert. First thing MHC say you must wait 2 years (always used this excuse). I showed them it's already 2 years. Then MHC turned back and look at the book and told me that those due in march also did not receive the letter yet. MHC said delay is at KL side. Then I ask so when will i get the letter. MHC said some early some late. Some have to wait up to 3 years (After the 2 years excuse is not valid anymore).

Then I said can you give me something to show ICA that the process take more than 2 years. MHC said show me letter from ICA to check the status. Then I said I dont have such letter. MHC said go and get a letter then they will check.........to be continued......

I am back. Just submitted my renunciation forms on 12 May, and collecting the renunciation memo & BC on 21 May.

Was wondering whether this plan of mine will work.

On 21 May itself:

2.00pm: quene for collection at MHC
3.15pm: ICA appt to take the oath
5.30pm: go for my driving lesson at amk

This way, I can save my leave by goin on the same day rather than on 28 May for ICA appt.

If your international passport is malaysian international passport, then the MHC will take it. have u booked ur bangkok trip?

usually if everything goes well, u'll get back ur renumnciation memo the following week which u then, can bring it to ICA to do ur Singapore IC n passport after that.

You have go to MHC ASAP to get the Form 'K' and they will give you a date to submit the Form 'K' together with all the necessary documents and their photocopies.

I think the submission date will be 5 months from now, that means most likely the date will be Oct-2009.

Please do share more tips on renunciation procedures or your renunciation experience. Hopefully it can be done fast and free of charge. I don't know how the service is like now. If it is better than what I've described, I'm proud of them. My personal experience at that point of time in Jul 2007 was a horrible one.

Everything still remained same as your description but the charge for renunciation was almost double which increased to S$11 instead of S$6.

By the way we have to re-fill the last page of Form ‘K’ on the submission day to another piece of yellow form.

My experience was we were not able to apply the passport on the same day as the oath process took about 1 hour +- . We have to drop the passport application forms to the deposit box, which will collect them on the 4th working day. :)

Yes,if you submit on 8-Oct, you will be able to collect the copy of renounciation slip/receipt on 19-Oct (7working days excluded public holiday).

I will suggest to make the make your ICA appointment on 20-Oct morning, it will more convenient for your to make oath and proceed to apply Singapore Passport. :)

Did you include your daughter in the SC application? If yes then you have to renounce her Malaysia citizenship as well.
In most of the case, the child will follow one of parent's (or father's)Citizenship. Please correct m if I was wrong.

Even you had renounced your daughter's Malaysia citizenship, when she is 21 years old, you daughter will still have a final chance to get Malaysia Citizenship. When this the case, she have to renounce Singapore Citizenship and get the ICA letter to submit to MHC, for more detail, you might need head down to MHC to check.

The normal processing time for Singapore Passport is three working days after receiveed the application form.

On the forth day you will receive the pink collection slip, this is to inform you when can you go down to collect your passport.

Ithink ther would a few possibilty why till now you still have not receive the pink slip; cwhat is your payment mode, credit card or NETS?

If credir card mode, I think you might had filled wrong card number or other info. If NETS, did you attached the NETS receipt to prove your payment?

Anyway I will advise you go to ICA to check.

Actually for "minor" (i.e. child), there isn't any renoucement need to be made. Just need to fill a form to return Malaysia international passport. So you are right, she will be given a chance at 21 to choose Malaysia citizenship again.

Please remind all that please bring and photocopy all the necessary document because saw couple of people didnt do it proberly and waste time for it.

When submit form they will check the completeness after that they will give you 2 copy yellow colour of Form K need to fill it and give you queue number Wait the queue number to call, submit ducunment,thumbprint and paid S$11.00 after that they will give you a memo to collect the letter of renunciation after 7 working days.

I'm wondering if anyone has the experience of registering singaporean citizenship whilst working in the United Kingdom? Becoz transferring my visa to work in the UK takes 3 weeks, it will mean I have to give up 5 weeks thereabouts to be in Singapore for the registration, renunciation of malaysian citizenship and transfer of visa. This is almost impossible with a regular job.

I have heard of cases of malaysians in the UK renouncing their citizenship in the malaysian high com in london to be singaporean but i can't work out how they managed to get back to singapore if they had to give up their passport, assuming the process is the same as in Singapore.

if anyone has any information on how this has been done before, i would be very grateful!

Yes, they will take away your Msia birth cert, thats why u need to laminate it as they will sent to Putrajaya at KL to process it. They will give a certified true copy of the birth cert to you to keep as for the original you will get after 2 or 3 years when they notified u to collect the Form K as well.

Just want to share that ICA is monitoring closely on the deadline for Form K and will revoke your Singapore Citizenship if you do not submit the Form K in time. You all know how "efficient" MHC is. It is up to yourself to chase them for the Form K.

I think the collection of renunciation slip from MHC has been fixed to 7 working days and non-negotiable, you can check with the MHC officer about this when submit the form.

While for Sngapore Passport, the earliest will be three working days after ICA received your application form.

Just went to renounce me and my family's citizenship today. Looks like no need to photostate passport anymore. Just bring along the original will do. All who took photostated Borang K will need to fill up again with the original borang K which is yellow in color. Stupid.... Also, we actually lost our restricted passport but we were told it's ok when we took the forms to apply get the appointment date months back. So when we went today, we had no problem with those lost passports. Anyway, I still think it's safer to report loss on those lost passports.

So this is how it goes:
1) Go to the MHC and go the the gate on the right to get a visitor pass. You'll need to surrender some form of identification in order to get a pass.
2) Enter MHC and go to the right side of the building.
3) Queue up at the "Form" counter. There the bengali lady will check through your form one time. Then wait for your name to be called at counter 3.
4) The lady at counter 3 will call you to go through in more details on your application form. There, if you do not have original borang K form filled up, you'll be given 2 copies per applicant to be filled up again. Once all items are properly filled, then only you'll be given a queue number. Wait till your number is displayed at the counter.
5) Go to counter 1 or 2 when your number is displayed. You'll need to surrender your passport and IC. Somehow, for kids, they don't need the original Borang W. It was returned to us. You'll need to stamp your thumbprints on 6 forms. Fee: SGD10 for adult, SGD3 for children.
6) Given the collection date of 6th August.

To Kong, no, kids are not required to go. We took our kids there only to be told that it's not needed.

One joker there was chatting with the processing officer while processing his application, "I graduated from UTM and started working here. Then got citizenship here. Here good leh, are you a Singapore citizen too? Why don't you apply? Here good maa...." Hahaha.....

Hi Fay,

I don't think there's a problem. It's just illogical to require a non-expiring passport to renounce your citizenship. Passport is just a document to allow you travel. Without it, even if you did not renounce your citizenship, it's not a compulsory document to have to maintain your citizenship.

Your kids still holding Malaysian citizenship status till 21 yrs old. Minor needs 21 yrs b4 renounce their "Malaysian" status in MHC. Your kids need to go back MHC or go to Wisma Persekutunan (JB) to do renounce process follow by a oath taking of allegiance in ICA at age 21-22 yrs old.

What you did in MHC for your kids were simply a passport return procedure not amounted citizenship for children.

ICA not require minor under 21 yrs old to return passport or renounce b4 citizenship registration under Singapore Citizenship s1985.Rule 4 . I see no point for you to do that. Most Malaysians keeps their kids passport till 21 yrs old.

Of course you'll need to make appointment with the ICA to take the oath. On the letter of approval from the ICA, it indicates a date which you need to go to take your oath right? Usually, the date is too short as the queue to renounce on the MHC side is later than the date of oath. That's why you usually need to defer it before you go for the renunciation and then maybe fine tune one more time after you get a confirmed date to pick up the renunciation slip.

because i'm a minor.. so the date stated from the ICA was from my 21st birthday till 1 day before i turn 22nd which is 27/12/09.

Just went down to ICA today to do the oath. Submitted the passport application onto the box as well after it's all done. So what happened today is,
1) Go to 6th floor and queue up or scan the approval letter.
2) Proceed to counter 22 - 29 which is on the left side of the from the entrance.
3) Submit the approval form to the officer. They'll ask for 1 photo for IC. Make sure that you do not wear tinted spectacle. Our spec is the transition lens and it didn't fully brighten when we took the photo and was rejected. Pay SGD 70 per applicant.
4) Wait for your number to be called again to process the IC application. Pay SGD 10 per adult applicant.
5) Wait for your number to appear at room 29 to do your oath. You'll then be given a temp IC which is just slip with photo.

Chris, I checked with ICA about the current ongoing problem of requiring more than 2 years to get the renunciation cert. They say it's no problem to extend further so long as we can get the official reply from Msia side that they can't provide in time when the due date is drawing near.

5) Strictly, they need all the passports but if you don't tell them and they don't ask, just submit whatever you have. Their process is always hurry burry. So, they don't really scrutinize all your passports. Anyway, restricted passport is not too bad. Even if you found one on the floor, it's not that you can use it anyway. It's the international passport they are more particular. Anyway, to ease your mind, just go to and NPP and report to get a letter, easy-peasy....

3) Without Malaysia IC and Malaysian Citizenship Cert.

Yes, the whole set you got when you went to book the date to submit all the documents. The ones we had was all photostated. Come on that day, all had to be refilled with the original forms. All the examples on how to fill up the forms are clearly pasted on the wall. So, you if yours is photostated, you may want to make a trip down again to get the original borang K form and at the same time, fill up the forms so that on the 20th itself, it will be smooth and easy. There's only a small part written in Malay which already translated by some of the kind souls here. So, it depend on you on whether to ask WTLEE for help. For us, we certainly didn't do so.

Another point to add. Don't worry too much on making mistakes. They are quite friendly and not as rigid as some ppl mentioned so long as you are friendly to them. You will encounter 2 rounds of document checks before you're given the actual queue number to do the actual submission. So, any mistakes just correct it or worse, just refill the forms. Our experience with them was quite pleasant, except for the lor sor bhai lady.

Yup. I went yesterday & the officer told me that original borang K can only be collected on the date of appoitment.
Anyway, i had been informed that they will check the photocopy form before fill-in to the original application form. Hence, not necessary to get 'someone' to fill-in the form for me !

Special remarks to all who wants to go MHC to get the date of appointment :
please go between 8am to 10.30am as the guard will reject your request to go in if you reach there EXCEED the above timing !
Reason given was from 2.30pm onwards is for COLLECTION only !
I was rejected yesterday ! Stand down there & argued with them for 10minutes and finally 1 of the kind indian guard agreed to let me in ....

Hahahaha.... Ooops, looks like there's no way to avoid the refilling of the forms. That probably makes sense as the original borang K has limited quantity and they want to make sure no form is wasted.

You can change the ICA appointment date thru' e-appontment.

Please bear in mind ICA only allow you to change the date online for two times, more than that you have to call ICA personally.

My advice is try to make your ICA appointment date be 10 working days after you Borong K submission at MHC.

You probably can go look for WTLEE which if you do a word search here, you should be able to find it. However, bear in mind that you'll still need to refill everything again on the day of submission as it seems MHC is distributing photostated copy of Borang K when you book your date. On the day of submission, then only you'll be given the actual copy of the Borang K to be filled up.

I just submitted all forms to MHC yesterday.
As told by Beluga, no worry on forms filling as the officer will guide you on whatever column that you leave it 'blank'.
The whole process was quite smooth and no additonal documents like police report on the lost passport/parents IC required.(Anyway, i prepared... just in case)

No, you can never get your Renunciation slip on the same day. It will take 5 working days to process. So, it's absolutely impossible for you to do your oath of the 8th as you should be getting your renunciation slip on earliest, 10th Sept or 11th Sept. So to be comfortable, arrange on the 12th September.

Just to let you guys know how to withdraw your EPF money after you've gotten your SG passport. Went over to Msia to get it done today with my wife. This was what I did and thus, I only know the steps below works...

1) Get the KWSP 9K AHL and KWSP 3 form. It can be downloaded online from www.kwsp.gov.my too. Fill up those forms ONLY in black ink pen. You will need to know your KWSP number. If you don't, probably you can visit them to obtain the number. It's an 8-digit number.
2) Go to any KWSP branch in Msia.
3) Bring along original and photostated borang K acknowledgement slip, SG passport and SG IC (the one with punched hole is acceptable)
4) Get your thumbs printed on the forms your filled up.
5) If you have MY bank account, you can choose to make them bank the money into the MY bank account. No share account is accepted. So, if you are like our case where there are no longer any MY bank account and whole family has converted, you'll have to choose to let them send the money in bank draft in SGD to Singapore. We preferred it to be banked into a MY bank account but was unable to do so.
6) Wait for 3 weeks to be processed.

Hmm... you seem to be surrounded by very misinformed ex-citizens. :-)

Spend some time reading the posts here. There are tons of useful info here. ICA only allow you to change the date 2 times via online. After that, you'll need to call them to change the date again. As far as I've read everyone's posting, no one has ever able to get it on the same day. Able to get earlier renunciation submission date is possible if you're pregnant but no other compromizable rescheduling as far as I know.

I think existing account shouldn't be an issue. Only problem is if you want to open new bank account. Need prove that your 2nd home is Msia or you have close relative in Msia. In that case, you can open a join account with the relative who is a Msian. However, like what we discovered, Msia gov will not deal with join accounts. Only individual accounts.

Huh? Not sure what you meant but logically speaking, of course you can only go on the appointment date you have made WITH the renunciation slip. So, don't act blur and go to your appt date before 15th September and hope they entertain you. So, if your appt date is before Sept 15th, you just have to reschedule the appt with ICA again...

If I remember correctly, you have made your appt with ICA before 15th Sept right? If so then you'll need to change the appt date till after 15th.

Of course you can't apply SG passport and NRIC until you've done your oath(sumpah). Technically speaking, you only become a Singaporean AFTER your do your oath. So how on earth you can apply passport and NRIC now? Changing citizenship is something that is considered sacred and solemn... You think can anyhow jump step one meh!

I got my renounce slip on 4 Sept 09 for myself and my 3 kids, age 6, 9 & 11. Do my kids need to apply for Malaysia & Singapore Passports ? The MHC officer told me I only need to go ICA to apply for Singapore passports for my kids. I thought minor can hold dual citizenship until 21 years old , and thus can hold 2 passports ?

Don't forget the Borang K documents you received from MHC and of course, your blue IC... ^^; Also, the photo must be white background, if wearing spectacle, it must not be tinted at all and your hair must not cover the ears. Otherwise, they will ask you to go and take the photos again at Level 2 at 5.35 for 4 pcs.

Passport application, just get the forms at level 1 entrance and fill it up. No need other documents needed to apply for the passport unless you changed your name or you're under 21. Just drop it into the box which is also available beside the automated kiosk on the level you are going for your oath. It's on the right side of the entrance of the path leading to the place you are going to take your oath. Alternatively, you can also go to Level 2 to apply but dropping into the box save you $10, but dropping into the box requires credit card to pay. We applied ours by dropping into the box. 3 working days later(not including the day I dropped-in the form), I just go to ICA to collect the passport without waiting for the reply slip as I agak-agak it should have completed by then and indeed, they have the passport ready. Passport collection must be collected in person as they will scan your fingerprint when you collect. You will also be asked to sign on the first page of the passport.

I think if you go at around 3PM, it should be ok kwaa.... Not sure leh. Post your comments later here if it works... Haha, better not else people will be asking, eh, 2:30 can or not har?

Well, you still have 1 final thing to worry about, which is to wait 3 years for the official renunciation cert.

Yes, definitely the SG side is much more efficient. You'll be amazed how the passport is delivered to the counter which calls your number on the day of collection. I suspect they are automatically delivered to under the counter's table via an automated conveyor belt.

I'm worry due to time constrain, i've to go on the next day for my passport application. For your info., i intend to apply the passport over the counter as both of my kids are not required to attend during collection if they 'show face' during application.

Hmmm... on the same day? That I wouldn't know. Technically, I should say, No since you're not a Singaporean until you've gone through the oath taking process.

If your children is below 6 years old, they are not required to show up at all for the passport application and collection.

Come to think of it, I'm quite certain, you can't apply before the oath. Imagine this, someone apply for the citizenship and just before he takes the oath, he go and apply the passport and after that, he just walk away without taking the oath. Of course, this person will eventually not able to collect his passport but imagine you go to the passport application counter and present blue IC instead of the temporary SG citizen IC slip, I don't think they will want to entertain, despite the fact that you show them the prove of oath taking on the same day. There's no guarantee that you may walk away after applying the passport right?

This is something new guys! NO NEED TO WAIT FOR THE RENUNCIATION SLIP FROM MHC! Probably somebody else can confirm this too?

In that case, nothing much else remaining except
1) Wait for the letter from ICA notifying you to attend the ceremony of receving your citizenship cert and pink IC, which is anytime between 3 to 6 months. I am at this stage too, waiting....

Finally, i went MHC collect renunciation of malaysia citizenship,used 1 minute time. I directly, go ICA level 6 drop another photocopy set to them. I curious....where my birth cert?why MHC never return to me?

They will only return the birth cert to you together with the renunciation cert, which is 2 to 3 years later. That's why they asked you to laminate the cert so that, the already kiam chye cert will still be well preserved when they return to you... So, in this 2 or 3 years, you will have no official prove of who is your father and mother.... hahaha....

Take bus 14 or 65 from Orchard MRT. Alight at the 4th bus stop. See road sign and walk in.

At the same bus stop opposite direction, you can take bus 32 to Lavendar MRT ICA Building.

Yup, that's expected...

I'm not surprise that someday, the queue takes longer time than the application process itself. MHC only process about 30 applicants a day. So, go imagine what's the queue like for 6 months.

4)if any of the parent is not m'sian
you will need 2 copies of parent's i/c,b/c/p/p...during submission...

For those who are concern your Malaysia property:

I have transferred mine to my father and mother and it cost RM2K plus for the legal and stamp fees.

In case some of you don't know: Foreigner need to pay levy fee of RM10,000 when you purchase a property in MY. I have checked with the my solicitor and bank officer for my bank loan. Both said if I have become S'porean, next time I sell my property will need to pay back the levy.

So I advise you to either sell it or tranfer it to your MY relativen first.

It's quite safe to set the ICA appointment 2 weeks after 25th March... You're given 2 chance to rebook your appointment 2 times online. After 2 times, you can still change again by calling them.

If u want yr Spore passport fast and don't mind making one more trip down to ICA, u can actually use the Renunciation Memo(half A4 size),which will be given on 25th Mar (provided all yr documents are in proper order!) to do the Spore Citizenship registration first and follow up after u obtain the Renunciation Letter from MHC (at lease 7 Working Days after the date of submission).
So u can change yr ICA appointment to 25th Mar afternoon ('cos submission to MHC is in the morning) or the next day. Otherwise yr may want to schedule after the 7th working days.
So pls, pls check and ensure all documents MHC called for are ready before 25th Mar!!

Don't bother to type. Your forms are photostated ones right? I can tell you, when you are there on the appt day, you will be asked to fill the forms AGAIN on the original forms, which is yellowish in colour. Try to look for my previous postings on this site.

I think probably the forms are limited and too many ppl are making mistakes in filling out. On the day of the submission, The Bengali lady will go through first, then 2nd round of going through then only they give you the original form to be filled out.

YES, NEE is COMPULSORY. You will be given a ticket stub at the end of the tour which I have forgotten how it will be used later on but it's basically to prove that you've attended the tour.

I've received a notice from ICA informing that my passport is ready for collection liao. Of couse, I still need to give ICA the documents which i'll collecting today (12Oct09).

And the last thing from now is wait 2 years for the proper renunciation letter from MHC and submit to ICA, then the whole renunciation process is consider over & done. MHC will mail that to you, so do inform MHC on any changes to your mailing address within these 2 years.

NEE is the introduction tour about Singapore which everyone has to attend which is normally the first thing to do when you receive the letter of approval from ICA. I did a check on your previous postings and I think you've completed everything right?

Don't worry, they will definitely send you the letter of invitation to attend the ceremony. I just received mine last week. Mine will be on 31st October at Discovery Centre.

Officer in charged had told me that since everything had been completed then is ok without NEE.
Now only waiting for the ceremony of new citizenship...

As mentioned by small, bring the letter you received from ICA to MHC immediately to book the renunciation date. It has been backlogged to more than 6 months. Every members will have to apply but to book the date, only you alone go is enough. Since all your kids are below 18 years old, they will not be able to give up their Msian citizenship until they are 18. By then, they will have to give the Malaysian citizenship themself.

As for the rest of the procedures, please read the postings here. We have already did everyone a favour by spending time writing our experience here. So, do us back a favour by reading it... Anything part that you don't understand, do ask us and we are certainly glad to help....

For "minor" (below 21 years old), there isn't any renoucement need to be made. Just need to fill a form to return Malaysia international passport. she/he will be given a chance at 21 to choose Malaysia citizenship again.

In that case, it will usually take a little longer compared to those whole family convert. My wife's colleague went to the ICA to submit the same time as us. We converted the whole family whereas for her case, only she and her young son. She got it almost 2 months later than us. Anyway, condition changes all the time... We'll never know what's their priority. All in all, I think your citizenship process should complete some time in Q2 2010.

I think the cert of renunciation is just a formality. As a sizeable group, I don't think SG will revoke our citizenship just because Msia gov is slow. Anyway, we'll never know and the situation we are facing now is something unique, so only time will tell...

Anyway, Chris, the excuse they gave really don't make sense. Aren't it suppose to be first in first out basis in term of processing? Your application was completed over 2 years ago, which at that point of time has not many people renouncing their citizenship right? What's the waiting period that time? less than 3 months right? Gosh, so that means for our case, which is over 4 months, got to wait over 4 years? Msia really boleh....

I have absolutely no idea. I never like the feeling of sitting on the fence, and I've been on it for 2 1/2 years already? ICA will grant you an extension when you forward them proof that Malaysian side is causing the delay.

When I initially applied, they stated that the renunciation period was 2 years. It came as a shock, but I had to accept it.

NOW, THEY HAVE CHANGED IT TO 3 YEARS, WITHOUT EVEN INFORMING ME. It was only when I asked (because ICA deadline was drawing near), that I got that unfavorable response.

I understand your question, but I have no idea whether there is a correlation between waiting period and completion time line. Hopefully not. Until anyone can provide more details of their last feedback from Malaysian side, let us all assume now that the MAX is 3 years, regardless of application waiting time.

Anyway, their(as in Msia) attitude has always been, "Why should be provide convenience to the foreigners". Haha, for all that we know, Msia PM may someday tell SG PM, that releasing the renunciation cert will be part of the water and railway package.... Doh! I really shouldn't give them more ideas...

Please read this webpage, lots of info that will help you on the process to renouncing the Citizenship.

You will need go to MHC for:
1) Collection of form K
2) Submission of form K (6~7 months later)
3) Collection of Proof of Renunciation (afteer 10 WORKING days)

Once you have submitted the Borong 'K', MHC will ask you to go back after 10 working days to collect your 'Proof of Renunciation' slip, this slip will be sufficient for you to take oath, apply Singapore IC and passport at ICA. The Passport will bbe ready within 3~5 working days.

a. Do I need the the approval letter from Spore Immigration before I can collect the Borang K or can I go collect the borang K anytime while waiting for Spore's approval letter?

b. If I read your reply correctly, does it mean that I will not have a passport for approx 13-15 days (2-3 weeks). Meaning when I submit the borang K, i wud have to surrender my msian passport together with other docs, then about 10 days later, I will collect the Proof of Renunciation Slip fm MCH. You only need to surrender your passport on the day you submit the borang K, which you have to book at MHC. So, in the meanwhile, you are still 100% a Malaysian and you can of course travel anywhere with your Malaysian passport. So, lets say after you have gone through the renunciation submission at MHC, you can do it in 2 ways

Method 1
- Make the ICA submission appointment the next day after the renunciation submission at MHC.
- On the day of the renunciation submission at MHC, you will get a renunciation acknowledgement slip after it's done.
- Go the the ICA appointment the next day and show this acknowledgement slip to them that you've submitted.
- Perform your Oath of allegiance to Singapore
- Do your IC
- Apply your SG passport.
- 3 working days later, go back to ICA to collect passport.
- 7 working days later, go back to MHC to get the stack of document to prove that you have renounced your citizenship. (This is NOT a renunciation cert, which you have to wait 2 to 3 years).
- Hand this prove of renunciation document to ICA.

Method 2
- Make the ICA submission appointment at least 7 working days after the renunciation submission at MHC.
- Go to the renunciation process at MHC and you will get the acknowledgement slip.
- Wait for 7 working days and go back to MHC to get the stack of document to prove that you have renounced your citizenship.
- Go the the ICA appointment show this renunciation document
- Perform your Oath of allegiance to Singapore
- Do your IC
- Apply your SG passport.
- 3 working days later, go back to ICA to collect passport.

Method 1 will let you get your passport faster. Method will save you less trip to ICA.

Reading through this citizenship conversion process, I notice that the malaysians have to surrender their passports,IC, birth cert etc documents before a Singapore passport is being issued to them. Doesnt that mean they are officially "stateless/passportless" for about 2-3 weeks (10 days wait for renunciation slip fm MHC, 5 days wait for Spore passport)? It sounds strange that the msians have to denounce their citizenship n surrender their msian passport before getting a Singapore passport/citizenship. In the unlikeliest circumstances, i wonder what will happen if someone who has denounced his/her citizenship and surrender his/her msian passport failed to obtain a Singapore passport/Citizenship? Isnt there a risk here?

Well, 2 ~ 3 weeks of stateless is a phase that everyone goes through. There's no 2 ways about it. As I've mentioned, Method 1 is the shortest way to get your passport. When ICA has approved your citizenship, they have in-principle, guaranteed your citizenship, unless there's a major change in the status quo, perhaps such as committing a crime.

Yes i agree. The bigger risk is the time taken to produce the renunciation cert, not the 2-3 weeks of being stateless. So while waiting for the cert from MHC, we just continue to renew our Spore passport as and when it expires? What wud be the validity of the Singapore passport when it is issued to us? I read Chris's notes and saw that there is a deadline imposed by Spore Immigration for which we hv to tender our renunciation cert. Wud our spore passport and the deadline to produce the renun cert have the same validity?

The renunciation cert and the renewal of passport is a separate matter. So long as a person is still recognised as a Singapore citizen, not declared a bankrupt and not under any criminal charge, there's no reason why he/she cannot renew passport. The validity of the SG passport used to be 10 years but to conform to the UN rules to make it biometric, it has been shortened to 5 years.

What I meant was the document which you will have to collect 7 to 10 days after you have gone to MHC to renounce your citizenship. Immediately after the renunciation, you will receive a small slip, which is good enough for the ICA to do the Oath and application of SG IC. However, they will still want you to give them the renounciation document from the MHC which you receive from MHC. In the usual process, we will wait until you get this renunciation document from MHC then only proceed to do your oath.

I suppose what you did was the same as what I did too.... Wait for 7 days, get the renunciation document from MHC then only go to ICA...

Just doll up yourself and be pretty. Haha... No need to memorise the pledge as it will be projected on the screen. The ceremony is not that long actually. Mine was held at Singapore Discovery Centre at 3 pm. It started with the registration, then when everybody has sat down, there's a short video clip to watch while waiting for the minister to arrive. When the minister arrive, there'll be a short speech and immediately followed by the presentation of citizenship cert to each members. My batch was around 300 members. I noticed that there are 4 main races, PRC chinese, Msia Chinese, Filipino, and Myanmarese. Anyway, after the presentation is over, there will be pledge and singing of national anthem. That's the end of it. Chop Chop.... Then there will be a nice buffet lunch. I was joking at my wife saying, "I think this is probably the last free meal we'll ever get from the gahmen"... Haha... All were given an option to take a free tour at the Discovery Centre after the service and we did. Everything finished (including the free tour) at around 5:30 pm.

By the way, did anybody apply PR for their parents after they got their citizenship? If so, what's the success rate? I just applied for them yesterday. Was given a 3 months wait.

Yea, they are already on SVP for the last 10 years or so. As far as gov is concern, I don't think they have any problem issuing such visa because those on SVP will not be able to get any social benefits. PR is a different story though. That is why I'm not really optimistic of them getting it.

Three members of my family, including me, have to go through this process. My mum is waiting (still years to go) and my sis hasn't started her renunciation process yet as she has not reached the minimum age.

Nah, I don't think that will happen, though I can't be 100% sure of this. If this were to happen, there will be tens of thousands of people affected. What will likely happen is that SG side will continue to probe us for the renunciation certificate... Like the case of Chris, the owner of this site, he got the cert after 2 years and 5 months. Those later batch than him will certainly take a longer time to get it.

I hope you don't get confused with something.... There are 2 parts in renunciation that is time consuming. First part is to obtain the date to renounce. This could take more than 6 months. For that, I heard the new batch of newly approved applicants has been given 6 months to renounce instead of 3 months. Even then I highly doubt it's sufficient. However, this problem is very easy to solve. Just go ahead and book the date from MHC first then give ICA a call or reschedule your oath taking about 2 weeks after the renunciation date. Once you've submitted the renunciation form, it's irrevocable and hence Singapore allow you to take up the oath and and be their citizen. As for the second of the waiting, which will take years, I did ask ICA about it on the day of taking oath. What they said is, when 2 years is due and you have not received the renunciation cert, just inform ICA and they will remind you again every year. Of course, they may change the story anytime they want in future....

This is the renunciation process:

1) Collection of form 'K' from MHC and get the submission date (which is 6~9months later)

2) Submission (subject to above)

3) - Make the ICA submission appointment at least 7 working days after the renunciation submission at MHC.
- Go to the renunciation process at MHC and you will get the acknowledgement slip.
- Wait for 7 working days and go back to MHC to get the stack of document to prove that you have renounced your citizenship.
- Go the the ICA appointment show this renunciation document
- Perform your Oath of allegiance to Singapore
- Do your IC
- Apply your SG passport.
- 3 working days later, go back to ICA to collect passport.

3) Collection of Proof of Renunciation from Malyasia to complete the whole process. (this will 2~5 years after the Submission date @ MHC.

Geez.... You have been sitting on the approval letter and doing nothing for 3 months? Usually, the best way forward is upon receiving the letter from ICA, immediately go to the MHC to book the date of submission which is at least 6 months away. Yes, the booking of a date with MHC is to submit the renunciation letters. The submission date will be chopped on the borang K. For whatever reason that is still holding you back, there is no harm to book the date with MHC and collect the form first because there will be no record done when you book the date. So, go and book the date first and you still have over 6 months to think about it....

Hi Bee,

On the day you submit, it will be taken away and no supplement travel document will be provided. Thus, you will not be able to travel oversea. Therefore, to minimize the period of no passport, go ahead and book your oath the day after your renunciation document submission day at MHC. After you have submitted your renunciation documents to MHC, you'll be given an acknowledgement slip. With this slip itself, you can go ahead and do your oath the next day and drop-in your SG passport application on the same day. You will then be able to get your SG passport after 3 working days. So, there's a lapse of about 4 to 5 days of no passport. The only disadvantage of this method is that, you will still need to make another trip to ICA to hand them over a stack renunciation acknowledgement documents which you will need to collect from MHC 7 working days after you have done your renunciation.

Hi all, i rcvd my citizenship approval within 5 weeks after submission to ICA. I went down to MHC end Dec 2009 to collect the Borang K and book my appt date. I was given end may 2010. Since I need to be overseas for 2 months from May 2010, I appealed for an earlier appt date. I must say the lady at MHC was really helpful. She gave me an appt date in JAN 2010. I submitted the borang K and all my malaysian documents to MHC and with the acknowledgement slip fm MHC, I managed to get ICA to issue me my new pink Spore I/C n my Singapore passport. I guess I am one of the very very few lucky ones who managed to go through this citizenship renunciation process in less than 2 weeks. Now I just have to wait 2-3 years to get my original renunciation cert from KL. For your info, borang K need not be typed. U can write and fill in the form neatly. If you are a Malaysian abv 21 years, u only need to submit yr original Malaysian I/C, original birthcert and passports (old n new. if u threw away your old passports, pls make a police report). You dont need to produce your parents' I/C, birth cert etc etc... The process isnt all that messy if you follow the procedures correctly.

c.To make your new pink IC and Spore passport, you need to bring to ICA 1. The original and 2 copies of the Letter of Renunciation fm MHC (u collect this letter fm MHC 7 working days after submission). 2 Singapore Blue I/C 3. 4 new photos

Lastly, you will expect that you cannot travel for about 2 weeks because after surrending your msian passport, u hv to wait 7 working days to collect the letter fm MHC, then go back to ICA to make your new Singapore passport and wait another 5 working days for your new passport.

Once you collect your letter from MCH (7 days after submitting borang K) u can go to ICA the next day and do yr I/C and passport. You can collect your passport within 3-5 working days. U will be given a temporary pink IC and you can only collect your original pink IC and citizenship cert 3-6 months after application. U will be presented these docs during a ceremony. I guess you will hv to ask ICA if you can authorise someone else to collect on your behalf since u will be out of Spore for a long time. Hope this is helpful for you

Wow, 5 weeks! That's fast man! Did you apply just for yourself? With kids? Or whole family? How long have you been living in Singapore? For my case, my whole family converted. We applied in end Sept 2008 and got the letter of approval in mid march 2009.

I have had my PR for 25 years n just recently decided to convert!! I applied the citizenship for myself and was pleasantly surprised it got approved within 5 weeks. More surprising was that MHC helped me and advanced my appt date to Jan (it was supposed to be May 2010). Im glad the whole process took me just abt 1.5 months to complete. Im now like everyone else, waiting for MHC to give me the original renunciation cert. It will likely be in 2013. I hope Im not dead by then....

No need.... Just submit what you have in hand though.

I Didn't return mine. However, I don't think it's valid since the MY's drivers license only indicate your MY IC number and you no longer have your MY IC.

Not sure exactly what you mean but once you have submitted your borang K to renounce your citizenship at MHC, so far no has complained after 7 working days still cannot get the acknowledgement letter from MHC. So, it's safe to book your appointment with ICA after 7 working days.

Yes we took out our EPF after completing the citizenship process. In fact, I posted in this forum too, the detail steps. Do a search. I think it was about 2 weeks.

Some guys mentioned here can keep the property. As for bank account, it's a commercial entity and therefore, can still keep it after you've converted.

As long you keep the photocopy of your Malaysian IC as the proof, I think it should not be a problem for not changing the particular of your propety in Malaysia.

I think it will be good if we go to update our Singapore IC number and citizenship for our Malaysia bank accounts, this will facilitate us to withdraw money in the future.

If u did not keep a certified true copy of your msian I/C, your renunciation cert will be a very important document to proof that you are the same owner before and after giving up your msian citizenship. For those who havent surrender your docs, it is always good to keep certified true copy of your msian I/C
As for bank accounts, yes you do need to update the banks as you are now no longer a resident of Msia

After you've taken your oath and apply your IC, just fill up the passport application form and drop it into their passport application box on the same day. You can collect it 3 working days later. I've done this myself. No need confirmation document. This is Singapore! All information is centralized in the computer system....

Yes it is. Unless explicitly specify that it is for SG ID/number, it's all meant for MY document. Anyway, during my time, I was given a photostated Borang K. Only on the day of submission, I was given the original form and then have to refill all over again.

2. U only need to fill up yr Msian International Passport that is still valid. Those expired ones u can just leave it out
3. Why are you renouncing your msian citizenship? Some reasons given are :
- married to a singaporean
- kids are singaporean
- working in singapore
- parents are singaporean
- have been living in Singapore for a very long time
you can state whatever reason you want

You mean the renunciation form? There's no point because the important part is to have the date stamp that indicates when you can submit the form and the immigration stamp to prove that this form is authentic.

Children below 21 will not be able to renounce their citizenship. Thus, surrendering your children's passport is not necessary. After your child obtained the SG citizenship, he can have 2 passports until he reach 21 years old, in which he has to choose which side to go. You and your child definitely have to wait until you complete the renunciation process on the MY side before you can apply for SG passport. SG passport can only be obtained after you have done your oath of allegiance.

2, 4) Malaysians born before 1957 should have a citizenship cert. My father has it.

If u are 22 years old and above, u dont need to submit your parents docs (i/c, passport, citizen certs etc)

I did my borang K submission at MCH recently. Whatever info I didnt hv, i just left the space blank and it was accepted by MCH

You can fill up the borang K with as much info and as accurate as you can. For those details which you are unsure, you can ask them when you go to MCH on your appointment date. The people at MCH will help you out. I asked them alot of questions and I was given the answers and help by MCH. So do not be afraid to ask.

I got a letter from ICA on 25th Feb 2010. I called up the Mal high com in Sg and some woman over the phone was just very rude and not helpful and did not tell me clearly that appointment making can only be made in the morning 8am to 11am, and i made a wasted trip down at 3.20pm only to be told by the security guards that they had closed, no need to go alr, only in the morning. And the wman said just bring the letter only. And whole lot of attitude and reluctance to talk.

ok enough complaints, the letter states that I'm a minor Sg citizen by birth or descent! Didnt know i was a minor oh GOD. I was born in Sg but i guess my parents havent obtained their citizenship when i was born when they had been here for more than 30 years.

So, can i double check with all here that for the first trip down, what do i have to bring? I dont have any malaysia passports or any malaysia documents!, how about my parents' documents? your replies

I have a few questions for Beluga, hope you are tuned in. It concerns mostly what you have posted previously. Here goes :

1) This refers to the collection of the stack of documents (proof of renunciation document NOT the final renunciation certificate) from MHC after the 7 to 10 working days, can I collect those documents on behalf of my wife and schooling kids or do they have to tag along?

2) Does the ICA retain the proof of renunciation document mentioned in my Question 1 above during the Oath-taking at ICA?

3) In your posting on how to withdraw EPF monies after obtaining SG passport, you mentioned "bring along original and photostated borang K acknowledgement slip etc.". Can I just confirm with you that this borang K acknowledgement slip refers to the proof of renunciation document in my Q1 above?

4) Ignorant, I am. For the life of me, I can't figure out what is this "NEE" mentioned and the ticket stub that I have to produce to ICA at the point of citizenship registration. I checked the list of required documents for registration of SG citizenship but I can't find anything on NEE. Please enlighten me.

5) You mentioned that you had your Malaysian documents copied in colour, certified true copy and laminated before you surrendered the originals to MHC. What a brilliant move. Would you care to share with us whom you got hold of to certify true copy?

Hope these help.

1) You collect those documents on behalf of you rwhole family.

2) No worries as MHC will give us 2 copies, one for us to keep while another one will be submitted to ICA, anyway ICA will photocopy the document and give us back the one we submitted.

4) NEE (National Education Experience) is an education tour for us to know more on Singapore history, visit one of nearby CC cum light buffet and follow by visit The Singapore Parliament, it will take about 3~4 hours and at the end of the tour they will give us a ticket stub as a prove that we have attended NEE, you will have show this ticket stub before taking the oath.

As for question 3 and 5, I will leave these to Beluga. Anyway I only scanned all my Malaysian documents without certified them. :(

Sorry for my late reply... Yes, bring along a photostated copy of the stack of documents you received from MHC 7 days after you received the slip. What EPF guys want to see is just a concrete proof that you have renounced your citizenship. I suspect that the slip is also good enough but then the document you received after the slip is much clearer. A photostated copy is good enough as the original copy will be taken by the ICA on the day to take your oath.

Basically, always make a copy for whatever documents you received from both MY and SG side for reference, especially your birth cert which not only you must make a copy, you must also certify true copy. Without an authenticated birth cert, there's no other document that can prove any relationship with your parents.

Anyway, as I read from other recent posting, yes, now I recall that there was 2 copy of the renunciation document received from MHC. One copy will be kept by ICA and you will keep another copy. So for the EPF, just photostate another copy and bring along the original just in case they want to see the original copy and also want to take a copy of it. I can't remember if they took a copy from us or not.

As for the NEE, I remember, on the day we went, there will be a ticket stub which they told us that we must keep it for the next citizenship process but I can't remember how exactly the stub was used.

As for the WT Lee service, I sincerely feel it's not needed unless you can't read Malay. You can go to the MHC's renunciation processing department to take a look at how the forms are filled. Moreover, if the Borang K form you received are photostated, you will have to fill up the original forms again on the submission day.

Lol, always forgot to write name before posting, the anonymous before Nicholas's post was me.

It is compulsory to show the NEE ticket stub to lawyer before taking the oath. Without the stub, I think they will not allow you to take the oath. :(

For question 1, I have no idea how come you are 26 years old now and yet did not holding MyKad IC, can you please elaborate more on this?

Q2) Singapore Citizenship Certificate is a certificate given to you after GRC ceremony for new citizenship, it will be used to prove you are Singaporean. The yellow laminated Entry Permit you mentioned was showing you are PR.

Q3) If you are referring Malaysian birth cert, the answers is yes. You will need to laminate your Malaysian birth cert and MHC will retain it for processing your application, no warry as they will give you back true certified copy for your future used ( which means that will 2~3 years)

Q4) Everything done in Singapore will be in Singapore currency, last year the charge was $11.

Regarding the MyKad, as i was here in Singapore since the 3rd day i was born, all i was given was only my birth certificate. My whole family was Singaporean except me due to my early born in Malaysia. So as to say, I'm the only blue card in my family. When i turn the age 12, I recieved a mail asking me to register for my IC (the small laminated card before MyKad). So all i have now is the laminated IC and my birth cert. When i try to apply for MyKad previously, they say theres no need for me to do so as I'm going to serve my NS in Singapore. That is why i do not have MyKad.

I'm puzzled too on how you still able to hold 2 citizenship until 26 years old. By right, you have to do the renunciation after 21st and before 22 years old.

Assumed your parents are Singaporean when you born, I really don't understanding why you became Malaysian, may be you are eldest in your family and your parents are still Malaysian when you born, are you? If the answer is ‘Yes’ for my question, then mostly likely your parents did not renounce yours in their Singapore Citizenship application, anyway please check this with your parents first, they are clearer than anyone of us.

Did you receive any letter from ICA when you reached 21 years old? The ICA letter is to inform you to renounce your Malaysian Citizenship at MHC after 21st and before 22 years old. Seriously, by failing to do so you might have difficulty to obtain your Singapore Citizenship. For furhter details, I will suggest go down to ICA to check..

I'm not holding to two citizenship but Malaysia citizen and Singapore PR. And ICA said i had to serve my NS before i can obtain my citizenship in Singapore which i had ask back in the 90s...
As for why I'm the only blue card, is like what i had said, I was an early born 8 weeks in advance when my parents visited Malaysia. So when i came back in Singapore KK hospital, they can't issue me a birth cert as i'm not delivered in KK. When in the later stage, ICA need me to serve NS before giving me a citizenship.
Anyway, I had already gotten my approval of citizenship of Singapore and all i had to do now is to renounce my malaysia citizenship.

Just drop in to share... I just completed taking oath in ICA, now waiting for my Borang K to arrive and complete the whole citizenship process.

1)For NEE, only when your approval letter states that you need to take then you will need to go NEE before oath taking, if not dont need.

2)When on the day taking oath, pls really dress smart. If not, I saw a few ppl kana send back to redress before allow to take oath. Lucky, I not one of them. Phew!

3)For the photos using for IC and passport, if can go take at the photo taking shop in ICA, as I saw a lady who took outside was ask to retake again, something like the photos not clear enough.

Lastly, the officers in both MHC and ICA are helpful enough with all your questions. So dont worry! Just ask them!

Thanks for sharing.... Yes! That's what I've been telling all the people here... Those guys in MHC are helpful provided that you are patient and friendly to them.

Talking about photos, yes, I kena also. Not because the photo was not clear enough but because my spectacle's lens is those that will darken when there are UV light. So when I took the photo, the lens have not fully brighten. For ladies with long hair, make sure that your ears are not covered by your hair. Like Doraemon mentioned, it's best to take at ICA as they will tell you all these things plus the price is reasonable. Some studios outside charge exorbitant price....

As for the oath, yea it's not to be taken lightly. Doraemon, did you receive a pamphlet asking you to donate your organ after the oath? We did... Hehehe... Funny place to receive such things....

You can do your oath without needing to wait for 7 days but then, you will need to spend another trip going to ICA because ICA will want you to hand over a copy of the document you received from MHC after 7 days. In other words, by waiting for another 7 days and then do your oath will safe you one trip to ICA because by then you already have the documents you received from MHC.

No, now ICA do not accept the temp slip that you got aft submitted your passports. ICA want the official memo that you will be getting only aft 7 working days aft submitted your passports/birthcert etc. So dont waste trip to ICA, wait until you get the official memo aft 7 working days.

I did photocopied the page with our details and the other page that stated our previous passport number, only need to photcopy the current passport will do cos I dont think they collect from me, but anyway you just photocopy in case they ask for it. The old passports, MHC only collect them but you dont need to fill into the form that they given you. The form only fill the latest and current holding.

Just laminate same size as your birth cert will do.

Yes, after dropping the passport application form into the passport dropbox, it will take 3 working days to complete. They will send you a letter to inform you to pick up but I didn't wait and after 3 working days, I just went straight to ICA to check if it's ready for pickup and indeed it was ready.

I think it is "has not acquired" because citizenship by birth is not considered as acquired. Acquired means you actively applied for it and base on certain merit, you were granted the citizenship and thus acquired it.

Is it a need for people between 21 and 22 years old to have both the photocopies of the citizenship cert and the birth cert ? or either one of the documents will suffice ?

Are you 2nd generation SPR? Do you currently hold S'pore passport?

If you are not (ie. 1st generation PR), then you won't have such document. You are not required to submit those 2 document to MHC when you renounce your m'sian citizenship.

What you mean by 1st generation? I don't have Singapore Passport, we only have Malaysia international passport. Thanks(:

1st generation PR means your parents are not holding SPR. You are the 1st generation of SPR in your family.

You are not required to submit Singapore Citizenship certificate or S'pore passport since you don't have them yet.

You only need to return your birth cert, current and all expired M'sian passport and M'sian IC to MHC when you renounce yr M'sian citizenship.

For my case, it was 2 copies. One for ourself and another copy need to be submitted to ICA, ICA photocopied the letter and return that copy to us as well.

Anyway I scanned a colour copy in my PC. :)

Just tell the ICA officer that you will need the letter to withdraw your EPF in Malaysia. I think they will photocopy the letter and return the original to you.

If you do not have a scanner at home, I will suggest you go to make a copy for your own record.

MHC also mentioned that I only can withdraw EPF after receiving Form K which is after 2 years. Is that true? I think you and Beluga went to withdraw EPF after obtaining SG Passport, right?

I do not any EPF in Malaysia, anyway MHC and CPF Malaysia are 2 different departments, they might not know each other system very well.I think once you have received your Singapore Citizenship Certificate, you can use that together with your Singapore IC to withdrow your EPF.:)

Thanks for your info. Actually the time spend in ICA for taking oath, making NRIC and passport is less than 1 hrs. In fact after collecting the renunciation memo from MHC, we can go to ICA on the same day. The Memo can collect from MHC after 2pm. No need to wait till 230pm. No need to waste so many leave.

MHC only return us 1 stack of document (A letter to prove M’sian citizenship renunciation under process at Putrajaya which take 2 – 3 years, attestation of our Birth Cert and Appendix A (one of the form which we have submitted to MHC during the renunciation).

Hope this will be useful for anyone planning their schedule.

I completed my citizenship process August last year, so I guess some things have changed... For one, the Renunciation documents received from MHC is now 1 copy instead of 2 copies. I can't remember if EPF department took our 2nd copy or they just photostated it. You can do a search on what I wrote in the history here.

If you book yr ICA appt at 815am, I am sure you can finish citizenship registration, making NRIC and passport in less than 45min. But make sure yr passport size photo is acceptable. If not you need spend time go to re-take again.

My mum told me that GST Offset credit 2010 can start sign up today. So I went to the website to try sign up but it showed that I am not eligible for it. As I currently overseas and would not be back at least a yr or 2, therefore I do not know whether there is any mail send to my house regarding that, anyone can help to advice when can we start sign up for it. I just tried to sign up but got the same message as yours, "Not eligible". I didn't receive any letter from CPFB as stated from the website. Based on the FAQ, we are eligible but......

To new citizens, any new subsidy that is eligible, you will be automatically given. I checked my status and it's already automatically added. Also, the yearly PUB utility concession was also automatically given. However, baby bonus and PTS tax rebate, you'll have to manually handle it.

I called up CPF to check why showed me not eligible to recieve the GST Offset 2010 when can I tried to sign up online for it.

The CPF officer told me that it may due to ICA haven't pass the updated list to CPF, therefore the system still showed that we are not eligible. So just wait for the GST letter to ask us to sign up to send to us. As long as we sign up before 31 Dec 2010, we will still recieve the GST Offset credit.
